Sandton Fashion Shop

A growing fashion seller in Sandton needed a quicker way to book pickups and compare courier options without spending half the day on shipping admin. CourierThis helped the team handle orders faster, with clearer choices for local and national deliveries.

Fashion orders in Sandton need quick dispatch

The client was a growing fashion shop in Sandton handling daily orders from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Gqeberha. Their team was spending too much time checking courier rates, copying order details and following up on pickups, which slowed down dispatch and left less time for packing, stock control and customer care.

The brief was simple enough, but it had to work in a busy retail setting: speed up courier booking, keep costs visible before checkout, and make it easier for staff to choose the right delivery option for each order. They also needed support for returns collections, because fashion customers often exchange sizes and colours, and that can get messy if shipping admin is handled by hand.

What was slowing the shipping counter down

Before CourierThis, the shop was dealing with several small friction points that added up by lunchtime. Staff were comparing delivery options across different courier services one by one, then writing pickup details into separate notes and message threads. If someone was off sick or away from the shop floor, the process stalled and orders sat waiting.

There were also practical constraints. Sandton traffic means pickup timing matters, and load-shedding can interrupt the normal flow of packing and order updates. The team needed a process that was easy to use on a phone or laptop, and could still keep moving when the power went off or the day got busy. They also wanted less back and forth with customers asking when a parcel would leave the store.

  • Daily booking for fashion parcels, usually 10 to 40 orders a day
  • Mixed delivery needs, from economy shipping to express shipping
  • Returns collections for size swaps and change-of-mind orders
  • Coverage across major metros and surrounding business areas

How CourierThis set up the booking flow

We set up a practical workflow around courier comparison, pickup booking and delivery option guidance. The main aim was to get from order to booked collection with fewer steps, while giving the team enough detail to make a sensible choice for each parcel. That included local delivery booking for nearby addresses, national delivery booking for customers outside Gauteng, and a cleaner way to manage multi order processing when the shop had a release day or sale event.

We also worked on small shop onboarding so the team could start using the service without a long learning curve. The customer success lead helped the client structure their day around batching orders, and the courier network coordinator assisted with pickup timing and service coverage. In practice, that meant fewer interrupts at the counter and a more predictable dispatch routine. The shop manager said it was much easier to hand over the process when one staff member was out, which was exactly what they needed.

  • Courier comparison for price and delivery speed
  • Pickup booking service for same day dispatch planning
  • Tracking support for customer updates after collection
  • Shipping admin support for order notes, labels and handover steps

Timeline and project specs

The work ran over 3 weeks. Week 1 focused on understanding the client’s order pattern, the busiest dispatch days and the types of deliveries they needed most often. Week 2 was used to shape the booking flow and test the handover from order received to parcel collected. Week 3 covered staff familiarisation, route checks and refinement of the admin process so the team could use it under normal trading pressure.

The project was handled by Thabo Maseko with support from Naledi Khumalo, Jared Naidoo, Anele Dlamini, Megan van Wyk and Sipho Mthembu. The shop was based in Sandton, with deliveries going into Johannesburg and other main centres. The spec needed to stay straightforward, because the staff were already dealing with stock, fitting-room queries and customer collections, so we kept the process clean and practical.

Results after the first few weeks

Once the booking routine was in place, the shop moved faster on daily dispatch. Staff spent less time comparing courier choices and more time getting parcels packed and handed over. The biggest change was not flashy, it was consistency. Orders were no longer being delayed because one person had all the shipping information in their head.

The client also found it easier to offer the right delivery choice at the right moment, which helped when customers wanted a cheaper option for standard parcels or a faster option for urgent purchases. Returns collections became simpler to manage too, which reduced the admin around size exchanges. In plain terms, the shop got back time during the work day and had fewer follow-up messages to deal with. It was a practical improvement and not a dramatic one, but that is usually what matters most.

  • Less time spent comparing courier rates by hand
  • Faster pickup booking on busy trading days
  • Cleaner handover for more than one staff member
  • Better control over returns and customer updates

What we would do again for another Sandton retailer

If we were rolling this out for another Sandton fashion retailer, we would follow the same approach. Start with the actual order pattern, not assumptions. Keep the courier choices visible and limited to the options the shop really uses. Build the process so it works during load-shedding, on a phone, and with a team that changes shifts. That keeps the system useful instead of becoming another admin job.

We would also repeat the onboarding support and tracking guidance, because small online shops do better when the dispatch process is easy to explain. A fashion seller does not need extra complexity, it needs fewer clicks, clear delivery choices and a clean pickup schedule. That is the part that makes day to day trading easier in Sandton and beyond.
